How We Design Social Impact Spaces

Next, we develop a concept design that reflects the essence of the client’s organization and the desired user experience. We use sketches, mood boards, diagrams and 3D models to communicate our ideas and get feedback from the client.

We then refine the concept design into a detailed design that specifies the layout, materials, furniture, lighting, colors and finishes of the space. We also consider the environmental, social and economic impact of our design choices.

Finally, we oversee the implementation of the design, ensuring that it meets the quality standards and expectations of the client. We also provide post-occupancy evaluation and support to ensure that the space functions well and achieves its intended outcomes.

A Case Experience: Betterspace

One of our recent projects was designing a social impact space for Betterspace, a coworking space in London that supports mental health and wellbeing initiatives. Betterspace provides affordable workspace, mentoring, training and events for social entrepreneurs, nonprofits and community groups working on mental health issues.

Our challenge was to create a space that fosters a sense of belonging, wellbeing and creativity among the users, while also being functional, flexible and sustainable.

We designed a space that is divided into three zones: work, learn and connect. The work zone offers various types of workstations, from individual desks to collaborative tables, as well as private booths for phone calls or meetings. The learn zone features a library, a workshop area and a presentation space for training and events. The connect zone includes a lounge area, a kitchenette and a terrace for socializing and networking.

We used natural materials, plants, warm colors and soft textures to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We also incorporated elements that reflect the identity and values of Betterspace, such as inspirational quotes on the walls, books on mental health topics on the shelves, and artworks by local artists on display.

The result is a space that supports the users’ mental health and wellbeing, while also enabling them to work effectively and collaboratively on their social impact projects.
